3 Tips to Help with Homework Over the Holidays

Some parents love the idea of extra practice so their student doesn't get rusty over breaks. Some parents hate the idea of having school infringe on valuable family break time.

Whatever your stance, some students will go home with homework during the break. If you're the parent that's not-so happy with it, here are some quick tips to help you through it:

1. Understand that some teachers have no control over whether they're required to send homework. Some do. If you're planning a big family vacation, send a quick email to the teacher to see if there is anyway the homework can wait until classes resume. Most teachers are willing to work with you (if they have the authority to do so).

2. Don't wait. We know this is easier said than done. Waiting until the last minute causes you and your student to have to worry about it during the break. Take some time in the morning or evening to get it out of the way.

3. Break it up. If your student has a large packet of homework, do it a little at a time. You and your student can quickly burn out if they're trying to do too much at once, and that defeats the purpose of having extra practice.

Before you know it, the heavy lifting is out of the way, and you can get back to enjoying the break. We honestly understand both sides of the coin. We know extra practice helps, and we also know sometimes families just need a break! We hope these tips help you handle some of the holiday hustle this year, so you can take time to reflect and be grateful for family this season.

While we will be closed for the holiday as well, we will be open again soon to help you with all your homework hassles! Don't forget, though, our center isn't just for homework help. We go above and beyond to help students master concepts and get ahead. When students learn how to handle their work the way our teachers teach them to, homework starts to take care of itself!
