ELA in High School aims to prepare students for work in college-level courses. Students in high school should have a working knowledge of the Parts of Speech and how they can be manipulated in clauses. They should also have a thorough understanding of how clauses affect punctuation and mechanics. At this level, gaps will be easily recognizable by our teachers, and we know just how to fix them!
High Schoolers should be fluent in reading while maintaining appropriate levels of comprehension. This means reading quickly while still remembering details. Students should be able to apply themes from texts and still utilize textual evidence in Discussion-Based Questions. Writing should accurately convey intention and reasoning within a well-structured and highly-interesting piece of work. Students will often be expected to use MLA or APA Works Cited. If foundations for Reading or Writing are lacking any at all, students will be overwhelmingly behind at this level. Our reading coaches are prepared to close literacy gaps, review the mechanics of writing, and teach students how to critique those difficult passages.
Georgia High School Students are expected to perform well in: Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Finance, and Statistical Reasoning. These are advanced subjects compared to what's taught in Middle School, so you may notice a dip in your student's performance when they enter High School. With such an array of concepts, it's imperative that students have the solid foundation of sound Number Sense. Sometimes, Number Sense gets behind due to an increase in algorithmic-only teaching. The tutors at Bridging Gap have taught math at all levels and know how to remedy this. They are ready to help your child grasp math, get through homework, and perform their best.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Our writing coaches help students maximize the impact of their literary works by reinforcing the effective use of rhetoric, emphasizing the importance of well-chosen words, and encouraging students to get creative while they meet the criteria put forth in each assignment.
